Privacy
Last updated: October 16, 2026
The short version: Pinchwise has no accounts, no cookies, no ads and no tracking. Your recipes stay in your own browser. Apart from an anonymous count of visits, the only times anything leaves your device are when you import a recipe from a link and when you send us feedback. The one-click bookmark and reading a photo of a recipe work entirely in your browser.
What is stored, and where
- Your recipes and anything you are typing are saved in your browser's own storage (IndexedDB) on this device. We can't see them. They aren't synced to other devices.
- Your settings (light or dark theme, whether to show original amounts) are saved in your browser's local storage.
- A copy of Pinchwise itself (its pages, code and fonts, and the food data once you've used nutrition) is kept in your browser's cache so it opens without a connection. It holds nothing about you or your recipes. If you install Pinchwise on an iPhone, iPad or from Safari on a Mac, the installed app keeps its own storage, apart from Safari's.
- This storage is needed for features you ask for, such as saving a recipe. It isn't used to track you.
You can delete a recipe in the app at any time, or delete everything by clearing this site's data in your browser settings.
Importing from a link
When you import a link, your browser sends that web address to our import service, which runs on Cloudflare's network. The service fetches that page, reads the recipe from it, and sends the recipe back to your browser. We don't store the web address, the page or the recipe, and we don't keep a history of what you import.
Like any website, our hosting provider (Cloudflare, Inc.) processes your IP address to deliver the service and to protect it from abuse, and may keep short-lived technical logs for security. See Cloudflare's privacy policy. The site you import from sees a request from our service, not from you.
Reading a photo of a recipe
When you choose Photo of a recipe, the photo is read by a program that runs in your browser, on your device. The photo isn't sent anywhere and isn't kept: once you continue or leave the page, it's gone. Only the text you keep is saved, like a pasted recipe. The first time, your browser downloads the reader (about 5 MB) from our site, and keeps it for next time.
Importing with the one-click bookmark
The Scale this recipe bookmark reads the recipe page already open in your browser and hands it to Pinchwise in another tab. That happens entirely inside your browser: nothing is sent to us, and the recipe site doesn't learn that you used it.
Sending feedback
When you send the feedback form, it goes to our feedback service on Cloudflare's network, which emails it to us and stores nothing. It holds only what the form shows under "See exactly what will be sent": the kind of feedback, your message, a recipe link if you gave one, and your email address if you gave one. If you tick them, it also holds the recipe (its link, ingredient lines and how it was scaled, and for a recipe you wrote yourself, its steps; never your cooking notes) and your browser's description of itself, its window size and the Pinchwise version.
Feedback, like an email you send us, is kept in our email inbox, which Microsoft (Outlook.com) hosts, for as long as it's useful for fixing a problem or answering you. If you ask to hear when the beta ends, we use your email address for that one message and then delete it.You can ask us at hello@pinchwise.com to delete what you sent at any time.
Counting visits
To know how many people use Pinchwise, we use Cloudflare Web Analytics, from our hosting provider. When a page loads, your browser tells Cloudflare the page's address (for a recipe, that includes a random ID number, never the recipe itself), the site that linked to it, your type of browser and device, your country, and how quickly the page loaded. It uses no cookies or other storage on your device, doesn't identify you, and doesn't follow you to other sites. We see only totals, such as how many visits a page had.
Things we don't do
- No cookies, advertising, analytics profiles or social media trackers.
- Apart from the visit count, no requests to other services when you browse the app. Fonts are served from our own site.
- We don't sell or share personal information.
Legal basis and your rights
If you are in the European Union, the United Kingdom or another place with similar laws: we process the information needed to answer an import request (the address you send and your IP address) because it is necessary to provide the feature you asked for, and in our legitimate interest in keeping the service secure. Visits are counted in our legitimate interest in knowing how the app is used, without identifying anyone. Feedback and emails you send are used to read and answer them (in our legitimate interest, and at your request), and an email address you give for the end of the beta is used with your consent. Apart from what you send us, we don't keep personal data, so there is normally nothing for us to give you or delete. You can still contact us with any privacy question (see Contact below). You have the right to complain to your local data protection authority.
If you are in California or another US state with a privacy law: we don't sell or share personal information as those laws define it.
Children
The app isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect information from children.
Changes
If we ever add something that changes this page, such as optional features that use data, we'll update this page first and change the date at the top.
