Recipes belong to the people who write them. Pinchwise is built to help cooks use recipes they already have, while respecting authors and publishers.

How imported recipes are handled

  • A recipe is imported only when a person asks for it, one page at a time. The app never crawls websites.
  • It reads the recipe information a page publishes for search engines (the standard “schema.org Recipe” data): the title, ingredients, steps, yield, times and the author's name, plus the recipe card's own section headings where that data leaves them out. It doesn't copy photos, stories, reviews or comments.
  • It keeps the functional recipe only. The author's personal notes and asides in the steps (such as “I used my favorite pan”) are left out, and the recipe is marked as adapted, with a link to the original for the author's full notes and tips.
  • Every imported recipe shows where it came from, with a link to the original page.
  • People can edit their own copy. An edited import is labeled “edited by you”, so changes are never presented as the author's.
  • Imported recipes are stored only in the browser of the person who imported them. Nothing is stored on our servers or published.
  • The link importer never gets around paywalls, logins or other access controls. The one-click bookmark only reads a page that's already open in the person's own browser, just like copying and pasting it, so it works only where they already have access, and the copy is for their own use.

If you publish recipes

You can ask not to be imported. Add our importer to your robots.txt file, or email us and we'll block your site from both the link importer and the one-click bookmark. Details are on For website owners. The importer identifies itself as PinchwiseBot.

Copyright concerns

If you believe something in Pinchwise infringes your rights, email hello@pinchwise.com with: the web address involved, a description of your work, your contact details, and a statement that you are the rights holder or are authorized to act for them. We'll respond promptly. Because recipes aren't hosted on our servers, the usual remedy is to block imports from your site.
