Install Pinchwise
Pinchwise can sit on your home screen, Dock or taskbar like an app, with its own icon and window and no browser bars. It’s the same free Pinchwise, with nothing to download from an app store.
iPhone and iPad
- Open pinchwise.com in Safari. Chrome, Edge and Firefox work too, on iOS 16.4 or later.
- Tap Share (the square with an arrow pointing up). In Chrome and Edge it’s in the address bar; in Firefox, open the menu first.
- Tap Add to Home Screen. If it isn’t in the list, scroll down or tap More.
- Tap Add, then open Pinchwise from your Home Screen.
Older iPads on iPadOS 15 work the same way. The Home Screen Pinchwise keeps its own recipes, apart from Safari’s: see “Bring your recipes along” below.
Android phones and tablets
- Open pinchwise.com in Chrome, Edge, Samsung Internet or Firefox.
- Open the browser’s menu (⋮ or ≡).
- Tap Install app, or Add to Home screen.
- Pinchwise appears with your other apps.
Once it’s installed, Pinchwise is in Android’s Share menu: share a recipe page from Chrome or another app to Pinchwise to import it.
Chrome or Edge on Windows, Mac, Linux or a Chromebook
- Click the install icon at the right end of the address bar.
- No icon? Open the browser’s menu and choose Install Pinchwise. In Chrome it’s under Cast, save, and share; in Edge, under Apps.
- Pinchwise opens in its own window, and you’ll find it with your other apps.
Safari on a Mac
- You need macOS Sonoma (14) or later.
- In the menu bar, choose File, then Add to Dock.
- Click Add. Pinchwise opens from the Dock in its own window.
As on an iPhone, this Pinchwise keeps its own recipes, apart from Safari’s.
Firefox on a computer
Firefox can’t install websites on most computers. Bookmark Pinchwise instead, or open it in Chrome, Edge or Safari to install it there.
Bring your recipes along
On Android, and in Chrome or Edge, the installed Pinchwise shares the browser’s recipes, so they’re already there.
On iPhone, iPad and Safari on a Mac, the installed Pinchwise keeps its own recipes, apart from Safari’s. To bring them over:
- In Safari, open My recipes and choose Download backup. Share backup works too: email it to yourself or save it to Files.
- Open the installed Pinchwise, go to My recipes and choose Restore from a backup file.
- Pick the backup file. On an iPhone or iPad, a downloaded file is in the Files app, under Downloads.
To move just one recipe, such as one saved with the bookmark: open it in Safari, choose Send to phone, then Copy to my Home Screen app, and paste it into the box on the installed app’s home page.
From then on, use the installed Pinchwise, so your recipes stay in one place. They’re safer there too: Safari can clear a website’s data after a week without a visit, but the installed app keeps its own.
Works without a connection
After your first visit, Pinchwise opens without a connection, installed or not. Your recipes, scaling, cook mode, timers, My kitchen and the shopping list all work offline.
Importing a link needs a connection (pasting a recipe doesn’t), and so do nutrition and reading a photo the first time you use them.
New versions arrive by themselves the next time you’re online.
